Using Spotify Outside Europe

Alt text

Spotify is a streaming music service with a gigantic library of music. It lets you listen to anything, anytime (from your PC/Mac and soon iPhone). Probably the best feature is being able to share playlists with others. It’s great for recommending other people new music, without having to transfer files around. You can even make collaborative playlists which anybody you give the link to can edit. For example I’ve been listening to this Guitar Hero 5 playlist.

Unfortunately at the moment it’s only available in a few European countries.

For Europeans like me living abroad, this isn’t a problem. If you have a credit card registered in one of the countries supported by Spotify, you can sign up for the Premium account, which is about 10 pounds a month.

I don’t know what network black magic Spotify uses, but despite being on the other side of the world, the music streams instantly!

Their support was also very helpful and proactive in clearing up whether it’d be OK for me to subscribe while outside the country.

Hopefully Spotify will be available in more countries soon!
